The Burien City Council voted on September 18, 2017 to appoint seven community members to the newly formed Human Services Commission. The commissioners bring diverse experiences to the board, including experience working in human services, social work, behavioral health, and substance use disorder professions. The Human Services Commission is an advisory body to the City Council and will be responsible for providing advice and recommendations related to human services issues. The first meeting will tentatively occur mid-October.
During the same meeting, the Council also voted to create a new human services manager position. The City is now accepting applications for the human services manager position. The application will close on October 23, 2017.
